Safety Meeting Fall and Winter Driving Conditions

  1. Chains need to be taken off when roads are clear of snow, while chains are on do not exceed 35 mph, and keep one tire in the snow when possible and alternate between the middle of the road snow and shoulder snow to even out the wear on the chains. Keep chains in trucks when not being used and a set of 4x4 blocks.
  2. Drivers getting stuck in the pit don’t need to call mechanic every time this happens. Get yourself unstuck using shovels salt and chains. If drivers don’t have a shovel on their trucks they need to get one from the shop and bungee them to their headache racks.
  3. Drivers need to carry zip ties, or wire to secure broken chain links so they are not flapping around and damaging the truck fenders or the underside of the delivery trucks.
  4. Keep chains tight, every time you stop check for tightness and readjust as necessary. When securing chains get on the link the closest you can get to the main chain set.
  5. Airline antifreeze. Add airline antifreeze to the system before releasing the brakes, this helps get some of the moisture out of the system.
  6. When going under a chassis in the pit, clear snow out from under the chassis front tires to remove some resistance that might cause you to get stuck when pulling chassis out.
